Justin Bieber's Mom Refused to Abort Him
Did you know that Justin Bieber's mom, Pattie Mallette, was being pushed to abort him when she became pregnant at 17?
Pattie had a very difficult childhood consisting of sexual abuse starting at the age of 3, drugs and alcohol starting at 14, depression, and even a suicide attempt. She left home at 16 and supported herself with petty crime and dealing pot. At 17 she threw herself in front of a truck, was sent to a mental institution, and was lead to Christianity there.
When she became pregnant on top of everything else her mother kicked her out of the house. She was encouraged to abort her baby by just about everyone around her, but she said that was an option she couldn't even consider. She commented:
I just knew I couldn't. I just knew I had to keep him... and do the best. I didn't know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn't abort. I had to do my best. I had to see what I could do. And I was determined to do whatever it took.
Instead Pattie went to a home for pregnant girls, and with their support that's where Justin was born. She said the first time she heard him cry it was music to hear ears. "I know it sounds crazy, but he sounded like he was singing. He did," she said. Going home with her new baby was not an option, so she went on welfare, worked part-time jobs, and even went on to get her high school diploma and some college training.
Justin began helping financially at the tender age of 6 when he sang on the street for fun and they realized that was another source of income. Just 6 years later at the age of 12 came Justin's big break, and the rest is history.
Pattie Mallette has now written a book entitled "Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber's Mom."
Their story is a true testimony to the strength and determination of teenage moms, and it's also a testimony to the network of pregnancy support centers across Canada and the United States who offer all pregnant girls the support they need when no one else will provide it for them.
Knowing their story, it isn't surprising that Justin is opposed to abortion.
