ABORTIONIST DR. KERMIT GOSNELL FILM TO BE PRODUCED
The crowdfunding effort to raise the $2.1 million goal for production of a film about Philadelphia abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell has been reached and exceeded.
Dr. Gosnell went on trial for murdering babies born alive at his Philadelphia abortion clinic. He was convicted and sentenced to several life terms in prison without the possibility of parole. However, the dozens of reserved seats set aside at his trial for the media remained mostly empty throughout the trial. It was not a trial that most media outlets wanted to cover.
Likewise, although Hollywood has made a number of films about notorious serial killers, they wanted nothing to do with the Kermit Gosnell story, in spite of the fact that he killed more people than Jody Arias, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacey, the Zodiac Killer, and Ted Bundy, combined.
According to the Grand Jury testimony that convicted him, Gosnell regularly delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy and then murdered these newborns by severing their spinal cords with scissors, which he called “snipping.”
In an effort to expose his horrific story three filmmakers came forward – Ann McElhinney Phelim McAleer, and Magda Segieda. On March 28 they began a fundraising campaign through crowdfunding with the Indiegogo website. Almost immediately three Hollywood celebrities jumped on board with videos to promote the campaign – Kevin Sorbo, Nick Searcy, and Sloane Brown. From that point everything went viral, and thousands of people heard about the effort.
Now over $2.2 million has been raised from almost 24,000 people who wanted to be a part of making this film happen. With tremendous public appeal, most of the 23,471 donors gave $100 or less, while 72 people donated $1,000 or more.
Social media and the power of individuals coming together for a common cause can work wonders. Now it’s just a matter of time before the Kermit Gosnell story is told.
