ABORTION IN THE NEWS

COUPLE ON TRIAL FOR BEATING THEIR PREGNANT DAUGHTER BECAUSE SHE WOULDN'T HAVE AN ABORTION

Beating DaughterBrian and Renee Schultz of Fremont, Ohio, were to go on trial this month for the beating of their 17-year-old daughter because she refused to have the abortion they wanted.  Now their attorney has filed a motion for dismissal of the charges, claiming their right to a speedy trial has been violated

.

The couple was charged with a fifth-degree domestic violence felony for the alleged beating of their daughter last June when she was four months pregnant.  According to police reports, Brian Schultz drove his daughter to a Cleveland abortion clinic where he had made an appointment for her to have an abortion.

When they returned home she told her parents she did not want to have the abortion.  The girl told police that her father punched her in the face and her mother kicked her in the stomach.  If the couple is found guilty, they face a mandatory prison term of six months and a maximum of one year.

Meanwhile, their daughter’s victim advocate says the daughter gave birth in December to a healthy baby.  Fortunately the alleged beating did not harm the baby, nor were the parents successful in forcing their daughter to abort her child.

According to the Assistant Prosecutor, the motion for dismissal has no merit, and she has one week to file her response to the motion.
